Steph Curry or Airball?

I'm out for my weekend walk (okay, more of a leisurely stroll, but I tell myself it’s better than doing nothing), when I stumble upon what I consider a shocking scene…

This dad is in his driveway demonstrating to his young son how to shoot a basketball. One thing I know is how to shoot a basketball and this guy couldn’t shoot for s**t!

Oblivious to his horrendous technique, I felt sorry for the kid when the dad while demonstrating said:

“As I’ve told you 100 times - shoot like this.”

Clang as the ball ricochets off the backboard and the next one doesn’t hit anything at all - airball…

All I’m thinking is what hope does this kid have…

Have you noticed how anyone can grab a basketball and throw it in the general direction of the rim?
No special skills required there.

But just because you can throw the ball doesn't mean you can shoot it well…

Even the pros have their off days. In the National Basketball Association (NBA), the average three-point shooting percentage is around 36%. The best shooters? They're pushing 40-45%. And the worst? They’re less than 20% - which is why they don’t take many shots!

Becoming a great shooter isn't just about luck or natural talent - it's about mastering skills, honing technique, and building habits.

The combination is the difference between our driveway dad and Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors, who is considered the greatest three point shooter of all-time.

Well, that and hundreds of millions of dollars!

Now, let's talk about something even more obvious and relevant

Being effective at work is a lot like NOT being that dad with the basketball. You might have the occasional day when everything just clicks - you're smashing through your to-do list, replying to emails like a boss, and generally feeling like you could take on the world.

But what about all those other days?

When your inbox looks like it's been hit by a tsunami, deadlines are breathing down your neck, and you're just "chucking" tasks out there, praying something sticks?

Sound familiar?

Come-on, be honest…

Is it like trying to assemble flat-pack furniture without the instructions (or that supplied Allen key - where do those things always disappear?).

The difference between someone who occasionally has a productive day and someone who consistently crushes it is all about their productivity skills, techniques, and habits.

Just like in basketball, if you don't have the right tools and practices in place, you're going to be as inconsistent as a Melbourne weather forecast.

That's where productivity coaching comes in. And no, I'm not talking about some cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach that makes you feel like you're back in high school detention.

Instead, this is all about you - your strengths, your quirks, your secret love of organising your sock drawer when you should be doing actual work (no judgement here!).

Think of it like this: productivity coaching is to your workday what a top-notch basketball shooting coach would be to our driveway dad. You get the tools to consistently perform at a high level, just like those NBA sharpshooters.

But the real game-changer is how coaching adds an accountability process that's crucial for embedding change and forming new habits.

Let's face it: turning learning into action is about as priceless as buying the last meat pie on a cold day at the footy!

With a coach in your corner, you're not just learning new tricks - you're putting them into practice, day in and day out.

It's like having someone there to remind you to bend your knees and follow through on every shot, except instead of nailing three-pointers, you're smashing your work goals and reclaiming your time.

Ready to stop airballing your workday?

If you're tired of just "chucking tasks" and hoping for the best (and let's face it, who isn't?), let's chat.

My productivity coaching is all about helping you reclaim time, reduce overwhelm, and achieve meaningful results - consistently.

It's not about working more (because let's be honest, none of us want that), it's about working smarter.

Book a call, and let's get started on making your productive days the norm rather than the exception.

With the right coaching and accountability, you'll be the Steph Curry at your work in no time.

How's that for a buzzer beater game winner?
