The Day the Ocean Decided to Join Me in My Boat

I’d always wanted a boat, and my first was a 16-foot Flightcraft Bowrider with a Mercury 100-horsepower outboard motor. I bought it before we had kids, knowing Sam wasn’t a boating fan, so I went with a boat small and light enough for me to launch and retrieve by myself.

We stored it at Safety Beach in Dromana, where we had an onsite caravan. Now, if you know Safety Beach, you know it’s usually quite flat. But there’s a catch: during summer, the boat ramp is packed on hot days.

After a day on the water, I’d beach the boat, drop anchor in the sand, and head off to join the queue of boat owners retrieving their trailers. Sometimes the wait was 45 minutes or more.

Here’s where things got interesting. Occasionally, Safety Beach lets you know who's in charge...

Right around the tide change, without warning, freak waves crash in - out of nowhere. On three separate occasions, while I was off fetching the car and trailer, the ocean decided it wanted to be in my boat!

I’d come back to find tens of litres of water in the boat, beached on the sand. And the work that followed? Getting the water out with the bilge pump and bucket, struggling to free the boat from the sand, and then washing everything down afterwards was challenging and exhausting.

Ever have days like that at work?

You set out with a clear plan, but before you know it, unexpected challenges crash in and take over. Just like those waves, admin tasks can creep up on you, hijacking your time.

Instead of focusing on the big picture, you find yourself stuck dealing with the small stuff.

AI to the Rescue

This is where AI steps in. AI isn’t just for complex algorithms - it’s a productivity tool that can streamline your everyday tasks. Think of AI as your digital assistant, handling time-consuming activities like summarising documents, automating meeting scheduling, or drafting replies to common emails.

By combining time management techniques with AI, you can maximise efficiency and effectiveness, accomplishing more in less time.

You’re freed up to focus on what truly matters - leading your team, driving strategic initiatives, or doing the high-impact work that moves the needle.

Instead of getting bogged down in admin, imagine focusing on the tasks that propel you forward. With AI, tasks that once took hours are now done in half the time.
